Pain Free Clinic is a team of Chinese medicine practitioners. Our treatments come from this lineage and may include acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, heat therapy, massage, herbal counseling and gua sha. All of these are techniques for facilitating movement and recovery in the body, though each works in its own particular way. Which combination of therapies is appropriate for you will be determined in consultation with your practitioner. All therapies are covered under the cost of your visit. There are no additional fees for additional therapies.
Your first visit to Pain Free Clinic will take a bit longer than the ones that follow. There’ll be forms to fill out, some of which you can get a head start on here (hyperlink to forms?). We ask that you come in a few minutes early to be sure all the paperwork gets out of the way and all the time slotted for your treatment can be used to treat you.
The treatment itself will also be a bit longer. The first time is where we get to know you, ask you about who you are and how you came by your particular pain. Plan to be in our office for about an hour and a half.
If it’s your first time getting acupuncture we are, first of all, very happy to initiate you! An acupuncture treatment can be pretty dramatic in its effect, but it’s a simple thing to receive. We use very fine needles, leave you to rest in a comfortable, peaceful room, and then come back and remove them. If we feel that a bit of massage, or maybe some cupping, would get us a bit further, we’ll do that too. We may have a conversation with you about herbs, which you are always welcome to take or leave. Loose, comfortable clothing is best, though not mandatory. Eating at least two hours before your appointment is absolutely mandatory.
Afterwards, we advise that you rest and drink plenty of water. If possible, try not to schedule any big stressors, or anything that tends to trigger your pain, for the rest of the day. Acupuncture helps the body understand how to heal itself and it’s good to let the body sort through its new information for a while.
